Product details Additional information
The Hammer Strength Plate Loaded Iso Lateral D.Y. Row is one of the most highly regarded back building machines in commercial gyms. It is famously named after six time Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates (the "D.Y."), who worked with Hammer Strength to design a machine that perfectly mimics his signature underhand barbell row.
By stabilizing your torso against a chest pad, this machine allows you to lift incredibly heavy weight to build back thickness without placing dangerous shearing stress on your lower back.

Target Muscles

  • Primary: Latissimus Dorsi (specifically the lower and mid lats)
  • Secondary: Rhomboids, Trapezius (mid and lower), Biceps Brachii, Rear Deltoids
  • Stabilizers: Core and Erector Spinae (though heavily reduced by the chest pad)

Key Features & Benefits

  • Iso Lateral Technology: The two arms move completely independently. This prevents your dominant arm from compensating for your weaker arm, helping to fix muscular imbalances.
  • The Supinated (Underhand) Grip: The handles are angled to promote an underhand grip. This forces your elbows to tuck tightly against your sides as you pull, which is the optimal biomechanical path for isolating the lats.
  • Unique Arc of Motion: Instead of pulling straight back on a flat plane, the machine pulls in a slight upward and backward arc that naturally follows the contraction path of the lat muscles.
  • Chest Support: Because your chest is braced against the pad, you can safely train to total muscular failure without your lower back giving out first.

How to Execute the Perfect D.Y. Row

1.Adjust the Seat:Crucial for proper lat activation.

Position the seat height so the top of the chest pad rests securely right below your collarbone. When you reach for the handles, you should feel a deep stretch in your lats, not your shoulders.
2.Load the Plates:

Load Olympic weight plates onto the weight horns. Because this machine uses a lever system, it will likely feel slightly heavier at the top of the movement than standard free weights.
3.Grip and Posture:

Plant your feet firmly on the floor or the provided footrests. Press your chest hard into the pad and grab the handles with an underhand grip (palms facing up). Keep your chest up and your spine neutral.
4.The Drive:

Initiate the row by driving your elbows down and back towards your hips. Imagine you are trying to put your elbows into your back pockets. Squeeze your shoulder blades together at the peak contraction.
5.The Negative:

Slowly control the weight back to the starting position. Let your shoulder blades protract (pull forward) slightly at the bottom to get a maximum stretch in the lats before starting the next rep.

Professionally inspected and tested for safety and performance.
